Tage Thompson and Clayton Keller played significant roles in the United States’ victory at the world hockey championship, marking the first win since 1933. Meanwhile, Seth Jones contributed to the Florida Panthers’ back-to-back Stanley Cup appearances.

Their impressive performances at the 4 Nations Face-Off last year earned them spots on the U.S. team for the upcoming Milan Cortina Winter Olympics. USA Hockey revealed the roster on the “Today” show, highlighting the chemistry and teamwork displayed by the players during the NHL-run international tournament in February.

General manager Bill Guerin emphasized the importance of cohesion among the players, praising their collective effort and playing style. Notably, Chris Kreider and Adam Fox did not return to the team, with Guerin clarifying that selection decisions were not based on single plays but on overall team composition.

Keller, the Utah Mammoth’s captain and a key scorer, led by example at the world championship. Guerin commended Thompson’s versatility, size, and scoring ability, highlighting his impact on the ice.

Following Canada’s strategy, the U.S. also opted for a roster heavily influenced by the 4 Nations event. The team stuck with the same goaltenders, including Connor Hellebuyck, Jake Oettinger, and Jeremy Swayman. Size was considered a bonus but not the sole determining factor in player selection.

Guerin stressed the need to build a well-rounded team with players who excel in specific roles. Experience and familiarity played a significant role in the selection process, leading to decisions like including Vincent Trocheck and Brock Nelson over other candidates.

The roster includes 25 players for the Olympics, allowing for a deeper bench and strategic lineup choices. The team’s first game is scheduled for February 12 against Latvia.

In other Olympic roster announcements, Finland named its NHL-heavy team, with defenseman Mikko Lehtonen being the sole European-based player. Sweden also finalized its roster, featuring notable additions like Gabriel Landeskog and Philip Broberg while missing some key players from previous competitions.
