“Mike Myers and Hazel Mae to be Honored at Canadian Screen Awards”

The Canadian Screen Awards will recognize actor Mike Myers, sportscaster Hazel Mae, and other distinguished individuals during this year’s Canadian Screen Week. Myers, Mae, Canadian Film Centre executive director Maxine Bailey, and Chandler Levack’s film “Mile End Kicks” will be honored for their significant contributions to the film and television industry.

Tammy Frick, CEO of the Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television, expressed that these recipients serve as an inspiration for future storytellers and highlight Canada’s exceptional talent in the screen arts. Canadian Screen Week is scheduled to take place in Toronto from May 27 to May 31, culminating in the Canadian Screen Awards ceremony celebrating excellence in Canadian cinema, television, and digital media.

Mike Myers, renowned for his roles in “Austin Powers” and “Shrek,” will receive the Academy Icon Award in recognition of his outstanding and continuous impact on the media industry. The Canadian Academy lauds Myers as one of the most versatile performers of his era, with over 80 film and television credits to his name across various roles.

Hazel Mae, a prominent figure in Canadian sportscasting, will be presented with the Gordon Sinclair Award for Broadcast Journalism. The Filipino Canadian reporter has captured the essence of major sports events, including the Toronto Blue Jays’ World Series journey, earning accolades for her exceptional work.

Maxine Bailey, executive director of the Canadian Film Centre, will be honored with the Changemaker Award for her efforts in promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion in Canadian media. Bailey’s initiatives aim to confront racism, amplify underrepresented perspectives, and drive systemic change within the industry.

Chandler Levack’s film “Mile End Kicks” will receive the Sustainable Production Award for its commitment to environmental leadership in both production practices and storytelling. The film, set in Montreal’s vibrant music scene, showcases sustainability efforts that have set a new standard for eco-conscious filmmaking.

The Canadian Screen Awards ceremony, hosted by actor Andrew Phung, will be broadcast on CBC and stream on CBC Gem on May 31 at 8 p.m. ET. This year’s event will also be simulcast on other platforms, including CTV, Crave, Global, and STACKTV.
