Catherine O’Hara was honored with the best female actor in a comedy series award at the recent Actor Awards ceremony in Los Angeles, following her passing a month earlier. The renowned Canadian comedic actress, who passed away on January 30 at 71 years old due to a lung blood clot, had been privately battling rectal cancer.

O’Hara received the accolade for her portrayal of Patty Leigh, a seasoned former studio executive in the Apple TV comedy series “The Studio,” a satirical take on the film and TV industry. She triumphed over a lineup of distinguished nominees including Jenna Ortega for “Wednesday,” Jean Smart for “Hacks,” Kristen Wiig for “Palm Royale,” and Kathryn Hahn for her role in “The Studio.”

Amid a heartfelt moment, the audience at the Shine Auditorium erupted in cheers and a standing ovation as O’Hara was declared the winner. Co-creator of “The Studio,” Seth Rogen, accepted the award on her behalf, praising her for her generosity, kindness, and remarkable talent contribution to their work. Rogen shared an anecdote about O’Hara’s dedication to improving scenes, noting how her suggestions always enhanced the overall quality of the show.

Aside from O’Hara’s triumph, “The Studio” dominated the comedy categories at the event, securing wins for best comedy series and best actor for Rogen. O’Hara’s illustrious career spanned various comedic ventures, from her early days on SCTV to iconic films like “Home Alone” and “Beetlejuice,” culminating in her memorable portrayal of Moira Rose in “Schitt’s Creek.”

Before her passing, O’Hara had already earned two Actor Awards for her exceptional work on “Schitt’s Creek,” receiving recognition for best actress in a comedy series and best ensemble in a comedy series with the rest of the cast.
