“Detroit Engineer’s Dual-Front Minivan Celebrates U.S.-Canada Collaboration”

Zach Sutton’s unique Chrysler minivan turns heads as he cruises through the streets, showcasing his custom creation called Bak2Bak. The vehicle is a combination of a 1993 Dodge Caravan and a 1991 Plymouth Voyager, with the front halves of both welded together to create a striking dual-front design. Notably, the two halves represent vehicles manufactured in different countries – Canada and the U.S.

Sutton, a Detroit resident involved in the local auto industry, sees his unconventional minivan as a symbol of collaboration between neighboring nations. Venturing into Windsor with his one-of-a-kind vehicle, Sutton expressed his belief in the potential of harmonious relations between the U.S. and Canada.

A mechanical engineer and member of the Detroit Freakbike Experience, Sutton enjoys building innovative projects. Apart from his car creation, he is known for his involvement in crafting unconventional bicycles and engaging in various hands-on activities like sewing, woodworking, and metalworking.

The idea of merging two front ends of vehicles stemmed from Sutton’s desire to create a project that would resonate with a wider audience. His whimsical approach to car customization aims to bring joy and appreciation to all who see it.

Over the course of three days at a community workshop in Ferndale, Sutton meticulously assembled the dual-front minivan, with assistance from fellow builders like Bob Katovich. The intricate process involved splitting the vehicles in half and seamlessly combining the front sections to achieve a cohesive design.

Sutton’s attention to detail is evident in the vehicle’s construction, where elements like the headlights repurposed as taillights and the functional steering system ensure a seamless driving experience. Despite its eye-catching appearance, the minivan is designed for practicality, with seating capacity for two occupants and versatility for off-road adventures.

While the border crossing with his unique vehicle was uneventful, Sutton’s creation has garnered widespread attention and admiration. From bewildered onlookers to social media fame, the Bak2Bak minivan continues to captivate audiences with its blend of creativity and engineering ingenuity.
