In Minneapolis, tensions heightened between ICE agents and demonstrators as a video emerged showing a woman being forcibly removed from her car by masked agents. The woman, who identified herself as a disabled autistic individual trying to reach a medical appointment, was confronted by ICE agents just blocks away from where Renee Nicole Good was fatally shot by an ICE agent the previous week.
The video captured the woman sitting in her vehicle with the window down as multiple masked ICE agents instructed her to move her car. Despite their demands, the woman’s response was unclear as the situation escalated. An agent attempted to open the driver’s side door but was unsuccessful, prompting the woman to move slightly forward before stopping again.
As tensions rose, an agent broke the window on the passenger side of the vehicle. Amid the chaos, both protesters and agents exchanged heated words with the woman. The agents eventually managed to remove her from the vehicle, with one agent cutting her seatbelt before handcuffing her.
Despite the woman’s repeated claims of being autistic and disabled and in need of medical attention, she was forcibly detained by the agents. Tear gas and other crowd-control measures were reportedly deployed during the incident.
ICE officers were in the area to execute an arrest warrant for a 20-year-old man from Ecuador who had entered the U.S. illegally. According to a Department of Homeland Security spokesperson, several individuals were arrested for impeding law enforcement operations and assaulting officers during the confrontation.
As ICE continues its enforcement activities in Minneapolis, residents have been expressing dissent by booing and blowing whistles at ICE agents, aiming to hold them accountable for their actions and raise awareness among the community. Homeland Security disclosed over 2,000 arrests in Minnesota since early December in their ongoing operations.
