“Minor Earthquake Shakes Amherstburg Residents”

Residents of Amherstburg experienced an earthquake on January 1st. Earthquakes Canada confirmed that a minor earthquake struck Amherstburg at 11:19 a.m. on Thursday. The earthquake, with a magnitude of 2.0 MwN, originated five kilometers beneath the town, according to the Natural Resources Canada division. Although no significant damage was reported, Earthquakes Canada received 150 reports of the tremor. The last seismic event in the area occurred in 2023, registering a magnitude of 4.4 MwN. Those who felt the tremor on Thursday are encouraged to provide feedback to Earthquakes Canada.
