The Las Vegas Raiders have terminated Pete Carroll’s contract after just one season. Despite high expectations, the Raiders ended with a disappointing 3-14 record, including a 10-game losing streak. Their season concluded with a victory over Kansas City. Owner Mark Davis and minority owner Tom Brady will collaborate with general manager John Spytek to seek out a new head coach, potentially focusing on an offensive-minded coach to mentor the team’s young quarterback. Carroll, aged 74, was the oldest head coach in the NFL and had previously led the Seahawks to a Super Bowl victory.
In Arizona, Cardinals coach Jonathan Gannon was relieved of his duties on Monday after a challenging third season plagued by injuries, mishaps, and a series of noncompetitive losses following a promising start. The Cardinals suffered a 37-20 defeat against the Los Angeles Rams, marking their ninth consecutive loss and 14th defeat in 15 games.
The Cleveland Browns have parted ways with coach Kevin Stefanski after six seasons. Stefanski becomes the fourth NFL coach to be let go this season, joining the likes of Tennessee’s Brian Callahan, the New York Giants’ Brian Daboll, and Atlanta’s Raheem Morris. The Browns managed to end the season on a positive note with two wins, finishing with a 5-12 record, including a 20-18 triumph over the Cincinnati Bengals. Stefanski, a two-time AP NFL Coach of the Year, guided the Browns to playoff appearances in 2020 and 2023. Under the ownership of Jimmy and Dee Haslam since 2012, the Browns have struggled with a 73-139-1 regular-season record.
Atlanta Falcons owner Arthur Blank revealed plans to make significant changes following the firings of coach Raheem Morris and general manager Terry Fontenot. Blank announced additional upper management adjustments, including the recruitment of a new football president from outside the organization. This new president will report directly to Blank, taking over from Greg Beadles in overseeing football operations. Beadles, who assumes the role of president and chief executive officer, will be responsible for managing business operations. Meanwhile, Rich McKay will remain as CEO of AMB Sports and Entertainment, focusing on various responsibilities such as the upcoming World Cup at Mercedes-Benz Stadium and preparations for Atlanta’s 2028 Super Bowl. The firings of Morris and Fontenot were announced after the Falcons’ 19-17 victory over the New Orleans Saints, capping off a second consecutive 8-9 season under Morris but still falling short of a winning season or playoff appearance since 2017.
