Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban have officially ended their 19-year marriage, marking the conclusion of one of the entertainment industry’s most influential celebrity couples. A Nashville judge granted the divorce during a recent hearing, stating that the couple had reached agreements on asset division and child custody that were deemed satisfactory. The judge cited “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for the divorce, making it impractical for the marriage to continue.
Both Kidman and Urban chose not to attend the hearing, and requests for comments from their representatives went unanswered. Kidman initiated the divorce proceedings in September, although the decision came as a surprise to many, the legal matters had been resolved on the same day she filed. According to Tennessee law, a 90-day waiting period is mandatory for divorcing couples with minor children.
The couple, aged 58, shares two teenage daughters. Kidman is designated as the primary residential parent in the settlement, with plans for the children to stay in Nashville, their longtime home. The divorce filing indicated that neither parent would seek child or spousal support, and their joint assets would be divided fairly.
Kidman and Urban, both hailing from Australia, first met in Los Angeles in 2005 and tied the knot in Sydney the following year. Throughout their relationship, they were a familiar sight on red carpets, attending various high-profile events together. Despite some publicly acknowledged marital challenges, the divorce announcement came as a surprise to many. Urban’s marriage to Kidman was his first, while Kidman was previously married to Tom Cruise from 1990 to 2001 and has two older children from that relationship.
