“Ontario Suspect in Ryan Wedding Case Seeks Bail Secrecy”

An individual from Ontario, apprehended in a crackdown aimed at alleged associates of Canadian fugitive Ryan Wedding, seeks court protection for the identities of those proposed to supervise him while on bail. Rolan Sokolovski’s legal team has filed a request before his upcoming bail hearing to prevent the disclosure of details that could reveal his potential sureties.

Sokolovski, holding dual Lithuanian-Canadian citizenship, is among multiple Canadians facing extradition to the U.S. in connection with an FBI probe into Wedding, a former Olympic snowboarder purportedly leading an international drug trafficking syndicate. U.S. authorities assert that Sokolovski engaged in money laundering for the criminal group and procured luxury goods for Wedding.

During a hearing, Sokolovski’s attorney, Scott Fenton, contended that revealing the identities of the proposed sureties could pose significant risks to them. On the other hand, Crown prosecutors argued that there is no evidence of threats to the sureties’ safety and that withholding their identities would withhold essential information from the public regarding the court’s forthcoming decision on Sokolovski’s release.

Ontario Superior Court Justice Peter Bawden is anticipated to make a ruling on the matter as Sokolovski’s bail proceeding commences. According to his U.S. indictment, the 37-year-old Sokolovski is also identified as a professional poker player, jeweler, and procurer, facing allegations from the U.S. Treasury Department of overseeing financial records for the organization and funneling drug proceeds through his jewelry business.

Court records further suggest that Sokolovski created a valuable necklace as payment for an alleged accomplice in the murder of a federal witness, aiding Wedding. The FBI has labeled Wedding, believed to be evading capture in Mexico, as one of its most wanted fugitives.

In a recent development, a lawyer from the Toronto region implicated in the criminal operation was granted bail, with his wife and another relative acting as sureties. Deepak Paradkar is accused of advising Wedding on criminal activities, introducing him to drug traffickers, and overseeing intelligence activities after drug seizures by law enforcement.

In a separate incident, the FBI in Miami confiscated an extremely rare Mercedes-Benz CLK-GTR Roadster, valued at US $13 million, as part of the ongoing investigation into Wedding’s network. It was discovered that Sokolovski had purchased the luxury vehicle.
