“Skate the Park: Winter Wonderland at Echo Valley Provincial Park”

Share

One of the well-known winter attractions in Saskatchewan has started operating again. Skate the Park is an ice skating trail that winds its way through the Aspen campground at Echo Valley Provincial Park near Fort Qu’Appelle. It spans almost a kilometer and includes a teepee warming hut with a campfire, ideal for putting on skates or taking a break.

Kris and Robyn Jensen, residents of Indian Head located about a 30-minute drive from the park, shared their motivation for visiting and skating during the pandemic. Their daughter, a figure skater, was eager for more ice time when many places were closed. Since then, the Jensens have made it a family activity and have been returning every season. They enjoy the variety of activities available at the park, such as snowshoeing, walking on trails, and cross-country skiing, catering to all ages and fitness levels.

Echo Valley Provincial Park also offers a croki-curl area and a ‘ninja warrior’ climbing course for children. Danielle Murphy traveled from Moose Jaw with her husband, four stepkids, and two French bulldogs to experience the skating track. Murphy, a former figure skater, and her husband, a hockey player, share a passion for skating and enjoy getting outdoors for some fresh air.

Originally from the East Coast, Murphy appreciates exploring attractions like this in Saskatchewan, despite the cold weather. Sophie, who hails from New Zealand and now resides in Calgary with her partner Noah’s family in Saskatchewan, visited the park and admired the enchanting fairy lights. She marveled at Noah’s ice skating skills, describing him as graceful and skilled, while she focused on navigating the ice herself.
