Toronto Animal Services has partnered with NutriCanine, a local fresh dog food company, to promote the adoption of large dogs in the Greater Toronto Area. This collaboration aims to dispel misconceptions surrounding big dogs and encourage more families to consider adopting them. The campaign, running from March 23 to April 23, will waive adoption fees for dogs over 50 pounds or puppies expected to exceed that weight.
Elana Trainoff, partnerships manager at Toronto Animal Services, highlighted that large dogs often linger longer in shelters due to their size, despite their loving nature. She emphasized that these dogs have immense affection to offer and can be a life-changing addition to families. Last year, the campaign led to 58 successful adoptions.
Trainoff urged potential pet owners to explore available dogs on the city’s website, contact the shelter housing their desired dog, schedule a visit with family members and existing pets, and find the perfect match. The adoption process remains unchanged, emphasizing the importance of meeting the dogs in person to understand their individual personalities and needs.
