A male individual faces second-degree murder charges following the tragic death of an infant in Melfort, Saskatchewan. Law enforcement officers were called to a residence on December 24 in response to a distress call concerning the baby’s condition. The incident occurred in Melfort, situated approximately 160 kilometers northeast of Saskatoon.
The infant, who was less than a year old, was discovered unresponsive and swiftly transported to a medical facility. Unfortunately, the infant succumbed to its injuries on December 28, as confirmed by the police.
Upon investigation, authorities deemed the injuries to be suspicious, prompting the RCMP homicide investigation unit and the Prince Albert serious crimes unit to take charge of the case. Subsequently, a 37-year-old male was apprehended in Melfort on Saturday and charged with second-degree murder, as stated by law enforcement officials.
In consideration of a potential publication ban, the police refrained from disclosing the identities of both the baby and the accused, emphasizing that they had a prior acquaintance. The accused individual was slated to make a court appearance at Melfort provincial court on Monday.
