Share

The ongoing 2026 Olympic Games have already provided a myriad of experiences and attractions for both spectators and athletes beyond the actual competitions. Milan, renowned as a global fashion hub and host to the prestigious annual Salone del Mobile design fair, showcases numerous must-see highlights during the event.

From the striking fashion ensembles seen at the opening ceremony and on the streets to a captivating runway show and a trending lava cake, the Winter Games in Milan offer a blend of design, fashion, and culinary delights that are worth noting.

Salomon, an activewear brand established in the French Alps in 1947, collaborated to create the stylish uniforms for over 25,000 staff and volunteers at this year’s Winter Games. These uniforms, suitable for urban and mountain activities, feature a range of functional apparel, including insulated jackets, versatile mid-layers, and Gore-Tex hiking boots.

In a first-time occurrence, a Winter Olympics runway show took place in Milan just before the Games commenced. Athletes from various nations strutted down the catwalk in performance wear, opening ceremony attire, and designs by local students.

The Games, with dual host cities this year, saw the lighting of two Olympic cauldrons crafted from lightweight aeronautical aluminum. These intricate 13.5-tonne designs were inspired by the knot patterns of the legendary Italian artist and inventor, Leonardo da Vinci.

A delectable treat making waves in the Olympic Village is the chocolate lava cake, lauded by athletes such as Courtney Sarault and Natalie Spooner. Following the trend of viral Olympic desserts, expect to see numerous “make-it-at-home” recipes inspired by this delectable creation.

A unique addition to the festivities is a limited-edition pasta shaped like the five Olympic rings, created by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) for Milano Cortina 2026. While not available for purchase, a select number of boxes will be distributed through digital activations by the IOC.

For fashion enthusiasts, Milan offers a plethora of designer experiences and eye-catching displays alongside the sporting events. Omega House Milano, draped in the official timekeeper’s signature scarlet, features a café, restaurant, and lounge. Moncler Grenoble showcases a temporary exhibition focusing on innovation in winter gear within a hotel courtyard, while Triennale Milano hosts a free exhibit exploring the interplay between sports, design, innovation, and the potential impact of climate change.
