Share

Stellantis and Microsoft have announced a five-year strategic partnership to collaborate on artificial intelligence (AI), cybersecurity, and engineering capabilities. This move comes as Stellantis aims to stay competitive with technology-focused rivals in the automotive industry.

The importance of software and data-driven services has grown significantly in the long-term strategies of automotive companies, particularly as Chinese automakers ramp up the development of new features to attract customers worldwide.

Traditional automakers, facing challenges in mastering software and technology independently, are increasingly seeking partnerships with tech companies to enhance their capabilities and accelerate progress.

Ned Curic, Stellantis Chief Engineering and Technology Officer, highlighted the significance of the collaboration with Microsoft in advancing their AI initiatives across the enterprise. While specific financial details of the partnership were not disclosed, the focus lies on leveraging Microsoft’s expertise to enhance Stellantis’ software ambitions and provide more personalized experiences for drivers.

The Stellantis-Microsoft partnership, centered on co-developing over 100 AI initiatives, will cover various areas such as product development, predictive maintenance, and faster deployment of digital features and services. Additionally, the collaboration aims to bolster Stellantis’ global cyber defense center using AI-driven analytics to safeguard vehicles, customer data, and operations on a global scale.

This partnership builds upon the existing relationship between Stellantis and Microsoft, with previous collaborations on connected vehicle platforms and in-car digital services. As part of the agreement, joint teams will work on enhancing cyber defense capabilities across IT systems, connected vehicles, manufacturing sites, and digital products to ensure comprehensive security measures.

Furthermore, Stellantis plans to modernize its IT infrastructure on Microsoft’s Azure cloud platform, targeting a significant reduction in its data center footprint by 2029. This strategic move underscores the commitment to innovation and technological advancement within the automotive sector.
