Canada’s Laurie Blouin secured a gold medal at a women’s snowboard slopestyle event during the World Cup in Aspen, Colorado. Despite starting in sixth place, the Quebec City native delivered an impressive final run scoring 81.21 to clinch the victory. This win marks Blouin’s third career World Cup slopestyle triumph and her 14th time standing on the podium. It is also her first win on the World Cup circuit since March 2022.
Blouin, feeling confident heading into the final, aimed to enjoy the competition without pressure while other athletes vied for spots in the upcoming Olympic Games in Milan and Cortina, Italy. She expressed her approach, stating, “I was just here to have fun and not have any pressure, and that’s what I did. I’m pretty much qualified for the Olympics, so I came here to just get the nerve back.”
In the video footage capturing Blouin’s victory in Aspen, Japanese snowboarders Mari Fukada and Kokomo Murase secured the silver and bronze medals with scores of 77.26 and 75.36, respectively. Meanwhile, in the men’s category, Francis Jobin from Quebec City emerged as the top Canadian, finishing in 12th place. The gold medal went to Jake Canter of the United States, followed by Yiming Su in second and Dane Menzies from New Zealand in third.
