His representatives confirmed that Dane succumbed to amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, less than a year after revealing his diagnosis.

During his final days, Dane was surrounded by close friends, his devoted wife, and his two daughters, Billie and Georgia. His family requested privacy during this time. Throughout his battle with ALS, Eric actively championed for awareness and research, aiming to support others facing similar challenges. His passing was deeply mourned, with tributes pouring in from fans and colleagues.

News of Dane’s death prompted an emotional response from his Hollywood peers, with many remembering his warmth, humor, and mischievous charm on set. Colleagues praised his talent, humor, and easy-going nature. Co-stars and show creators paid heartfelt tributes to Dane, remembering him as a gifted actor and a cherished friend.

Eric Dane, born in 1972 in northern California, embarked on an acting career after high school, securing various roles in television shows before landing his breakout role as Dr. Mark Sloan, known as McSteamy, on “Grey’s Anatomy.” He later starred in “Euphoria” and “The Last Ship,” showcasing his versatility as an actor.

In April 2025, Dane revealed his ALS diagnosis and subsequently became an advocate for ALS awareness. Recognized for his dedication, he was honored with the Advocate of the Year award by the ALS Network. Dane’s memoir, “Book of Days: A Memoir in Moments,” is set to be published this year, chronicling significant moments in his life, including his ALS diagnosis.

Eric Dane is survived by his wife, Rebecca Gayheart, and their two daughters. Despite their complex relationship, marked by separation and reconciliation, Dane and Gayheart remained connected until his passing.
